ZTE has done a really good job in gaining mindshare around the world with some of its innovations. The SPro 2 is just one example of how bold the company can be in making use of Android, but devices like the Nubia Z9 are another example that design and innovation are key to ZTE’s strategy. Today we learn that there is more up the company’s sleeve, and this time it could be a world’s first.

Reports claim that a new smartphone from ZTE being dubbed the Star 3 could be the world’s first smartphone with a 4K display. Sharp introduced a 5.5-inch 2160 x 3840 pixels display back in April, but the company confirmed that it wouldn’t be ready for mass production until 2016. The source claims that given Sharp’s limitation, this display is being built by China’s BOE. Some leaks of the design of the ZTE Star 3 are already going around, but it’s not until today that we learn of this possible differentiation factor.

We’re sure you already did the math, and yes, this is a crazy 806 PPI. The report claims that it’s only a matter of time before we see this device emerge.
