This past summer we saw ZTE introduce its Nubia Z7 line of Android smartphones, consisting of the titular Z7, the Z7 Max, and Z7 mini (can we stop this all-mini-phone-branding-is-lower-case rule already, OEMs?). All three had some pretty decent hardware, especially the Z7 with its quad HD screen, 3GB of RAM, and Snapdragon 801. That was only four months ago, but we’re already looking to what’s next from the manufacturer, as a leak outs a handset purported to be an upcoming Nubia Z9.
With that red circle home button, this is pretty clearly a ZTE phone, but the placement of the various components up top don’t match with any of those existing Z7-family offerings. While we don’t see the handset powered-on, we get the impression from these pics that it might feature narrower side bezels – maybe even barely-there ones – than previous models.
But for the moment, this is all we have to work with; nothing like an exhaustive set of Nubia Z9 specs has yet to leak. We can make a few guesses – quad HD would almost be sure to return, and an SoC bump to something like a Snapdragon 805 might be in order – but that’s just speculation for the moment. A source has suggested that ZTE may plan to launch the Z9 before the year’s out, but again, it’s just too early for more substantial details to arrive. If ZTE is able to deliver another combination of top-tier hardware and a relatively affordable price like it did with the Z7, this could be another of the company’s phones worth being on the watch for.
