Reviewing the full sized Axon 7 was a very happy surprise. That phone delivered an incredible bang for its $399 buck. ZTE is back at it with a phone that continues the same design language, but arrives for $100 less.

The Axon 7 Mini isn’t THAT much of a mini in terms of size. About 4mm shorter and thinner, but with the same depth, and shrinking the screen from 5.5″ to 5.3″. Just about everything gets a trim here. The processor, the RAM, the storage, and we would expect that from a “mini” device. We are curious to test the audio and camera performance here however. ZTE delivered something really special with the full sized Axon for folks who enjoy high quality audio, and while there were some flaws, the camera was certainly an ambitious undertaking.

Several manufacturers have tried and abandoned the idea of a releasing a phone with a familiar name and lower quality specs to achieve a lower price point. Does ZTE have the right recipe for success here? Well, first we need to get this phone out of the box…
