YouTube to get windowed playback multitasking?

The Android YouTube app may get the job done when it comes to playing videos, but the way the app currently operates, it’s of limited functionality while content is actually being played. Sure, you can scroll through comments and related videos, but if you get it in your mind to, say, search for another clip, you need to stop playback in order to check out results. Well, if what one tipster has been saying is true, that could soon be all about to change, and YouTube could be stepping up its multitasking game.

Reportedly, the current build of YouTube being tested in-house allows users to shrink videos down to a window in the corner of the screen while playing, allowing you to continue to navigate through the app. At the moment, this is apparently constrained to within the YouTube app itself, though is rumored to go system-wide by the time this feature is ready for public release.

While there’s no hard ETA, this source estimates that Google could be ready to release this update sometime in the next month or two.
