We just shared with you some official word from Sony about its continued dedication to the smartphone market, and how we shouldn’t expect the company to pack up shop or sell things off – ever. That’s great news for Sony’s fans (and honestly, for the market in general), leaving them only to wonder what’s next from the manufacturer. Well, even though the world only just got the Xperia Z4/Z3+, rumors are already suggesting that the company’s next big handset could be just around the corner, as talk of the Xperia Z5 returns.
Early rumors about the Xperia Z5 were active all the way back in April, looking to killer specs like a Snapdragon 820, 4GB of RAM, and quad HD display. Sony already made that quad HD leap with the Xperia Z4v for Verizon, and now a source reports that those other upgrades could be landing soon, as well, with the Xperia Z5 launching as soon as this September.
That sounds a bit soon to our ears, but it’s not the craziest idea we ever heard; especially with the confusing Z4/Z3+ branding and Sony’s unwillingness to label that phone as the full-blown sequel to the Z3, the sort of spec bumps we’re talking about for this rumored Z5 might be significant enough to warrant the graduation to a new Z-number. But would Sony throw the Z4/Z3+ under the bus in the process? We’ll need some additional corroboration before we’re buying this theory.
In addition to the beefed-up internals, the Xperia Z5 could also pick up a fingerprint scanner and arrive alongside the Z5 Ultra and Z5 Compact.
