Admit it: when you first heard those rumors about Sony bringing a smartphone with a 4K display to IFA this year, you had your doubts. Granted, we’ve known manufacturers have been able to produce such screens, but for someone to actually build a phone around one, and so soon? Well, this was a believe-it-when-you-see-it moment for a lot of us, and at IFA this week, we sure saw it: the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium. Now come with us and take a look for yourself as we go hands-on with the world’s first 4K UHD smartphone.

Even if Sony didn’t explicitly call this phone “Premium,” that’s a word we’d likely find ourselves turning to anyway, gawking over the handset’s polished mirror-like exterior, or holding the phone’s screen up to squinting eyes in a foolhardy attempt to discern individual pixels.

Yet while Sony gives the Premium some unmistakable upgrades, this is still a phone that very much follows in the footsteps of its namesake, and users will largely enjoy the same experience they’d get from the Z5 itself. Are the extras here worth it? Watch on to see what we found.
