Could this really be the “mini” phone you’ve been waiting for? The handset in the four-inch space that still packs the sort of processing might and HD display as a much larger smartphone? Sony sure managed to do right by us with the Xperia Z1 Compact, and today at IFA 2014 in Berlin we set out to see if the hot new Xperia Z3 Compact will quickly have us asking, “Z1 Compact who?”

We can talk about the Z3 Compact’s very capable hardware specs until the cows come home, but a phone like this one isn’t just about the performance; as a smaller phone, we’re acutely tuned to paying attention to how it feels in the hand. Is this as petite as we’d like it to be, or does Sony stumble a little in really nailing the form factor?

In our video below, we answer just that question, while also giving you a quick overview of what else you should hope to expect from the Z3 Compact – at least until we’re able to give the phone the time it needs for an in-depth full review. For now, take a look for yourself and start thinking about whether or not this mini model is one you might like to pick up once it hits retail.
