It was May when Xiaomi launched the Mi 5 and just a couple weeks since the Mi 5s took off, so obviously we’re due for another round of leaks and rumors for the Mi 6. And we guess that if there’s a good way to start, it’s gotta be with photo leaks.

And so, Chinese social media has made it happen for us.

The Mi 6 we’re seeing seems to be a test unit and the black color definitely feels like some sort of matte black that we’ve seen on a recent phone that starts with the letter “i”. In fact, we could say that we have a mix of iPhone 7 material with iPhone 5 design. The front face tells more of a chaebol story with a narrow fingerprint sensor and an ingot-like slab of 2.5D glass.

Rumors are talking up a 5.5-inch quad HD display, a 16-megapixel camera with dual-LED flash and a Snapdragon 821 with 4GB of RAM. But we’re way too out from a release at this point (if we’re going by the standard 12 months) to regard these with any favor.

Then again, given the gap between the Mi 4 in July 2014 and the Mi 5 this year, let’s hold our breaths.
