Xiaomi M1 Dual-Core Android Runs a MIUI ROM

The first time an Android user goes looking for information on what would need to be done in order to flash a custom ROM onto his smartphone, there’s a fair chance he’ll find himself overwhelmed with the sheer number of options available. Some of us like to keep things simple, and pick a ROM like CyanogenMod and stick with it, release after release. Others will explore some more of the options out there, including MIUI ROM releases. Soon there may be a way to check out MIUI without needing to co-opt an existing Android, with news that Xiaomi will be releasing the M1 smartphone, running a MIUI ROM by default.

The supposed specs of the M1 look decent enough, and include a 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm processor and a four-inch FWVGA screen manufactured by Sharp. Unfortunately, this news is lacking some other pertinent details, like the M1’s storage and memory capacity.

While the phone will be released in China, MIUI fans will likely seek out the phone from abroad, as well. While the M1 will have quad-band GSM, for global compatibility, the specs don’t mention any WCDMA bands for HSPA, making this look like a 2G-only device.

The Xiaomi M1 should start going up for sale in the next month to month-and-a-half.
