Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak sure has a lot of opinions about smartphones, and while he’s certainly an iPhone fan, his history with the company doesn’t stop him from occasionally being vocally critical of it. We’ve heard him lament that he wishes his iPhone could do as much as an Android, as well as suggest that the lack of iPhone models of different capabilities and sizes was a bit arrogant of Apple. Now he’s right back at it, describing Apple as being somewhat behind its competition when it comes to smartphone features.

In an interview with Germany’s Wirtschafts Woche (Economy Week), Woz comments on how, despite Apple’s loyal fanbase, the company can’t simply rest on its laurels, and needs to keep working to deliver quality products. When it comes to smartphones, he thinks that Apple’s competition – specifically Samsung – has been making great products that may be delivering features that surpass Apple’s.

While still technically an Apple employee, Woz’s special status gives him the freedom to address topics like this in a way we might not hear the company’s leadership do. We’ve been wondering if Apple might be starting to stagnate ourselves, so it’s refreshing to know that we’re in good company.
