What can be better than big? Being bigger, of course. If this leak is to believed, HTC has a monster phone coming up to act as the successor to the HD2. According to this leak, the HD3 will have a 4.5' AMOLED display running at 1280×800 resolution. The Snapdragon CPU will clock in at 1.5GHz, supported by 1GB of RAM (!) and 1GB of ROM. The battery will be 1800mAh. The profile is a mere 10mm in thickness.

But wait a second. There are some fishy details about this leak that makes us think it to be a fake. First, Windows Phone 7, last we checked, doesn't support resolutions greater than 800×480. Second, a 4.5' AMOLED display has never been achieved because of the high cost. The HD3 would be extremely expensive and difficult to manufacturer. Third, the leaked image shows HTC's slogan as being "simply powerful" which would represent a shift in branding for HTC, which has gone by the slogan "quietly brilliant" for only a year or so. And finally, and most importantly, the design of this handset looks too generic to be an HTC phone. There's just nothing special about it...no interesting design elements, no sophisticated use of materials. What this very well could be is a concept that HTC came up with earlier this year. Or, maybe someone just had some fun in Photoshop.

What do you think? Real or fake?

Update: Sorry, folks. This is old news being passed off as new by some other tech sites, including us. We actually posted about this several months ago and it was a self-proclaimed fake. Mistakes: they happen. =D
