Windows RT Squeezes Its Way Onto HTC HD2

By Stephen Schenck December 27, 2012, 4:06 pm

As if last month's news that Windows Phone 8 had been adapted to run on the stalwart HTC HD2 wasn't enough to convince you that this unstoppable little handset from 2009 will continue to run modern software long after the rest of its peers have found their way to the bottom of our junk drawers, intrepid Windows Phone developers have continued to see just how much punishment the HD2 can take, now managing to get Windows 8 RT running on the smartphone.

It makes enough sense; RT is designed to work on ARM processors just like we find in most every smartphone and tablet around. The only real reason to restrict it to tablets like Surface is because that's where Microsoft's whims lie. Undaunted by the lack of official support, Windows Phone hacker Cotulla (of the Dark Forces Team) manged to get a UEFI implementation running on the HD2, and from there was able to coax Windows RT into booting.

POCKETNOW VIDEO OF THE DAY

Who knows how useful this will end up being, or if it will ever come to other devices, but we're still just absolutely floored to see things like this possible on the old HD2.
