Windows Phone 7 Marketplace LG Apps Store Updated

If you follow the news, you most probably know by now that LG is offering free applications exclusively to LG Windows Phone 7 owners via the LG apps store inside the Marketplace. New titles were added in December and then again in January and now LG is offering four additional app titles.

If last time the apps were third parties, with value of $29.2, and LG offered them all for free, this time there are four applications made by the manufacturer itself.

1. Today is an application that is based on the Panoramic screens on Windows Phone 7 to offer information about weather, news, twitter and currency rates. In order to get Bing-powered weather, the application uses your device’s location which, if unavailable, can be overridden by a manual selection of your location. News are courtesy of MSNBC while the Twitter screen will show your timeline once logged it. The currency screen allows you to set your own currency by choosing from a vast list (unfortunately there’s no support for Romania’s RON yet) but more will hopefully be added. The only thing the app is missing is a Live Tile but we hope LG adds one later.

2. Weather & Clock provides weather and world clock information taking advantage of the Panoramic-display. You can set your home location or have the application automatically find that out using your device’s location and you can also set several “away” places. Weather info is brought by Bing. The World Map gives a graphic representation of the places which are currently set for weather with overlaid icons to reflect the current conditions as well as local time. Unfortunately the app does not have a Live Tile.

3. QR Reader is pretty self-explanatory, a rather quick QR barcode reading application that can return results for internet addresses, text, business cards, etc. It uses the application’s camera — talk about LG’s access to the Camera API — to scan the barcode without taking the picture. Successful scans are saved to the history and you can add or edit notes related to the barcode or share it via SMS or Email.

4. PostNote is a note taking application with four templates: plain, heart, cloud and leaf shaped. You can select from a variety of backgrounds and use pinch gestures to zoom in or rotate the notes.
