As we’ve seen both Apple and Google try new grounds in the automotive business, both companies have shown quite a different approach to the way you should interact with your vehicle. While Apple wants you to extend your iPhone towards it, Google wants you to have Android in your car. Now the odd thing is that Microsoft has pioneered vehicle interaction with services like Ford Sync, and we were wondering why the company hadn’t extended its reach and UI towards other vehicles in a unique way, though that question got answered today at its Build Conference.

Microsoft has just shown us its new “Windows Phone in the car” concept today. Microsoft claims that it works like CarPlay since you apparently have to use a Windows Phone for it to work, and yet the demo crashes at some point and reveals a full version of Windows on the display. Again, this is still a concept, and Microsoft has shown us all the efforts its placed into making this a safe way to communicate and interact with apps while on-the-go. Cortana will play a big roll in this service, as it’ll help you interact with the user interface without the need to focus on the display. The company even mentions that it plans to allow developers to build applications for the service as long as these abide to some strict safety standards that it plans to impose in its vehicle testing.

The user interface does look quite practical, but it’s hard to know how soon we can expect this service to reach the public. Whatever the case may be, Microsoft is on to something good here, and let’s hope that it does become more than a concept soon.
