Some recent rumors have suggested that Microsoft might be thinking about speeding-up the release of the Windows 8 Pro version of its Surface tablet, in an effort to generate some consumer interest following a less-than-glowing reception for the Surface RT model. Well, according to Microsoft, those rumors of a December release are off, and we’re still looking at a January launch, instead. While the company hasn’t revealed a specific date just yet, it had some other Surface Pro details to share, finally disclosing pricing info.

Microsoft sells the Surface RT 32GB model for about $500, and while the 64GB version is only available with a Touch Cover for nearly $700, we can assume it would be about $600 alone. For the Windows 8 Pro Surface models, neither of which will come with a Touch nor Type Cover by default, the 64GB version will sell for about $900, while the 128GB comes in a hair under $1000.

While certainly expensive, those prices are in line with what Microsoft told us to expect, comparable to ultrabook laptops.

For the moment, Microsoft’s not accepting pre-orders for the Windows 8 Pro Surface models, but we should see that change as we get closer to January.
