Considering how long Windows Phone 8.1 users have been waiting for their W10M promotions, and how Microsoft’s already missed one or two update deadlines, we figured Redmond would make a big fuss about the public rollout whenever that’s finally ready.

But then out of nowhere these Lumia 535 owners, including non-Insiders, claimed they got their revised OS builds a few days ago, supplying screenshots as evidence. Everything seemed legit, so why didn’t MS at the very least issue a press release?

By the looks of it, we’re still in the beta testing phase, and according to Microsoft China, “some Lumia models worldwide” can get Windows 10 Mobile several days ahead of the masses. This is probably just to ensure the OTA installation process runs without a glitch, and it’s yet another sign we’re close.

February 29 is starting to sound like a credible ETA not only in Mexico, but the names of old Lumias slated to receive Win 10 goodies in the first wave remain under wraps. The 535 appears almost guaranteed, and the list of devices that could join it early includes the 430, 435, 532, 540, 640, 640 XL, 735, 830, and 930.

The latest version dispatched to Technical Previewers is 10586.107, which is also making its way as we speak to the Lumia 950 and 950 XL, and will probably be next amended in March.
