As we predicted yesterday, Sprint has reportedly begun rolling out the LONG awaited Android Gingerbread update to the Samsung Epic 4G! Yay!

Not only do you get the latest-and-greatest version of Android (remember, Ice Cream Sandwich hasn’t been released — yet), you also get some bug fixes:

+ Airrave notification fixes

+ SMS area code fix

+ PRL and Profile update fix

+ EAS HTML Tagging fix

+ Bluetooth headset quality fix

+ Lock screen date fix

You should be getting the update over the next few weeks, but if you simply can’t wait (and I can’t say that I blame you!), here’s how to get the official update now!

0. Make sure your phone is fully charged.

1. Download the update from Google, saving it as to the root of your sdcard (link at source).

2. Turn off your phone.

3. Hold the Volume Down and Camera buttons, then press and release the power button.

When your phone boots up it should automatically launch the update, everything else is automated, so enjoy the show. The next time your smartphone boots up you’ll have Gingerbread! Yummy!
