vivo X9, X9 Plus launched with dual front cameras

If you thought 16-megapixel selfies from your Sony Xperia XA Ultra were just a little too blurry, maybe you should leave it behind and spend a little dough on a new phone from Chinese manufacturer and OPPO co-hort, vivo.

It launched both the X9 and X9 Plus, both of which have two selfie cameras — one of them fronted by a 20-megapixel Sony IMX376 sensor with an f/2.0 aperture. The secondary 8-megapixel camera seems to be just that — secondary and used for depth and focus. Add some dedicated LED flash action and you can probably tell why this “Moonlight” setup is grabbing attention.

Oh yeah, and there’s a 16-megapixel rear camera. Big whoop.

A Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 with 4GB of RAM is found in the X9 while the Snap 653 is in the X9 Plus, towed along by 6GB of RAM. Both phones have full HD AMOLED displays, though the smaller phone sizes it at 5.5 inches while the Plus goes for 5.88 inches. Both phones also have an AKM4376 DAC (with a claimed maximum push of 116dB) and a fingerprint sensor.

The X9 is ¥2,798 or $410 for the 64GB version. Double the storage and the price goes up to ¥2,998 or $439. Availability and pricing of the X9 Plus have not been released.
