Virgin Mobile Gets LG Optimus Slider, HTC Wildfire S Next Month
A couple days ago, we got an early look at the LG Optimus Slider as it will come to Virgin Mobile, thanks to Best Buy launching the phone’s product page a little early. Back then, we still didn’t have any idea of the release plans for the handset. Virgin Mobile’s now here with the answers we seek, revealing all in its formal announcement of the Optimus Slider, alongside the HTC Wildfire S.
The Optimus Slider may be better-known to you as the LG Enlighten on Verizon, a Gingerbread-running QWERTY slider with an 800MHz processor. It sports a 3.2-inch HVGA screen and a 3.2-megapixel camera. All-in-all, some decidedly mid-to-low tier specs, but considering its $200 off-contract price tag is lower than the on-contract cost of many new phones, we’d hardly expect to be seeing dual-cores and 3D displays. Sprint retailers will have the LG Optimus Slider on October 30, and retail partners (such as the aforementioned Best Buy) will get it over the course of the following week.
HTC’s Wildfire S has been around for a while now, also getting its start on the networks of other carriers. Maybe even more so than the Optimus Slider, this feels like a low-tier Android, with only a 600MHz processor. It also shares the Slider’s low HVGA resolution 3.2-inch display; the only spec that’s an improvement over that phone would be the Wildfire’s five-megapixel camera. It will also fetch around $200, so unless you really don’t want a slider, the LG might be the smarter choice here. The Wildfire S will arrive at retailers on October 23.
