Verizon Source Leaks Droid RAZR ICS Update Details

Motorola’s set the clock ticking on the arrival of Ice Cream Sandwich updates for the Droid RAZR and RAZR Maxx on Verizon, claiming that distribution of the updates will commence before the end of the quarter. With June now in full swing, there’s less and less time left for Motorola to make good on its word; just when could we hope to see ICS arrive? While Verizon’s yet to publicly confirm any distribution schedule for the phones, CNET is now reporting that a Verizon source has revealed that the plan is to begin RAZR ICS distribution in one week, on June 12.

If we’re to believe what this source is saying, the RAZR could be going straight to the latest Android 4.0.4, skipping the 4.0.3 release we’ve seen come to many Androids upgrading from Gingerbread. For the moment, that would put the RAZR in a pretty exclusive club. The decision to go ahead with 4.0.4 is reportedly responsible with delaying the release of the RAZR’s ICS update for as long as it has.

We’re expecting that, in addition to bringing the RAZR and RAZR Maxx up to Ice Cream Sandwich, the update may also introduce the global roaming support Verizon’s been discussing lately.
