Those who have stuck with Turing for the long run have been waiting on final shipping dates. Forget the fact that the company switched out a secured version of Android for Sailfish OS or even the fact this Turing Phone has “liquid metal” or whatever, you’ve waited nearly a year for this device with good money sunk into it, you’re going to get it.
Well, you probably got an email from Turing today with a tacit acknowledgment that it blew another vague shipping deadline. But the interesting news here is that the company gave a specific date for when the boxes start flying out of the door: July 12.
The reason why we say this is “interesting” and not “good” news is because these units to be sent to pre-orderers are “evaluation units” with the outdated Snapdragon 801 chipset in them. Turing goes on to make a new promise to have Snapdragon 820-equipped Turing Phones to last year’s backers for free by the end of the year. We’ll post the full text of the email below our Via link.
Turing also included a video from a freshman YouTuber that goes around Sailfish OS on the device — likely the result of some quid pro quo between that person and Turing. The person in the video makes note of the “dark wyvern” version he has, but only flashes the design of the back for less than a second. Because Sailfish.
Any hopes left in Turing-ville?
