A little earlier this month, we heard Huawei announce its Ascend P6, a quad-core Android with 4.7-inch HD screen that measures only 6.18 millimeters thick. We remarked at the time that records like that have a way of being short-lived, so it’s hardly surprising that this week we’re already learning of another Android that just blazes right past the P6’s record, coming in just 5.6 millimeters thick.

Besides just being thin, the Umeox X5 has a 5.3-inch 720p screen, eight-megapixel main camera with three-megapixel front-facer, and is powered by a dual-core SoC. Based on that last bit, we’re clearly not looking at a phone quite as powerful as the P6, but at least the X5 should still be running some modern software – it’s supposed to launch with Android 4.2.2.

We don’t know anything about US plans for the X5, but Europe is definitely in the phone’s plans, and it should be coming to France, at least, sometime this summer.

Unrelated to this X5 business, Huawei’s been talking some more about the P6. It’s interesting to hear that the company apparently felt like it could have pushed the hardware to be even thinner than it is, but relented out of concerns that slimming things down more would have a negative impact on build quality. We guess there really is such a thing as too thin!
