The 700MHz Auction: Why So Much Press?

You’ve heard about it many times – in news magazines, newspapers, and blogs. But do you really understand the whole story?

The 700MHz auction is a big deal that may change the wireless service landscape in a little over a year from now. Gizmodo has just put together an excellent explanation of the situation, and even makes a prediction as to who will win it: Verizon.

Verizon winning the C block pretty much kills previous utopian notions of a mythical third pipe, outside the grasp of the vested telcos, bringing glorious open internets to us all. However, coupled with Verizon’s recent announcements it could spell progress.
