The inclusion of Xbox Live-branded games in Windows Phone 7 is demonstrative of Microsoft’s growing interest in the mobile gaming market. The sharing of content like XBL avatars between the Xbox 360 and WP7 phones may draw the attention of a few console gamers to come check out the new mobile platform. What about efforts to migrate customers the other way, to take someone who’s just getting into WP7 and introducing them to gaming on the 360? Canadian provider Telus is reportedly making a big push towards this cross-promotion, as for a few days later this week, customers who sign on for WP7 service will each receive a free Xbox 360.

The give-away supposedly runs Wednesday through Sunday, and covers both new activations and contract renewals. If you commit to three years of service during that window, Telus will ship a 360 console direct to your door. The leaked information on this promotion doesn’t go into detail about what sort of 360 setup subscribers will be receiving, but it would likely be a cheaper 4GB system without hard disk storage; don’t expect any Kinect bundles.

Sure, this isn’t as hot a deal as it would have been a few years back, but a free video game system is nothing to shake a stick at. Would dangling this carrot be enough to sway you from another platform on over to WP7, or do you think this offer will only act as a bonus to subscribers who were already leaning towards a WP7 model?
