A heavy-hitting player is about to enter the rapidly-changing wearable landscape with an Android Wear offering, and the lead-up to its launch is underway. The Tag Heuer Android Wear smartwatch has been confirmed already, and today the company has bestowed unto it an official name.

In an interview given to Wareable, Tag Heuer chief executive Jean-Claude Biver said the following:

There is no other choice for Tag Heuer than to have all its DNA, all its watchmaking emotion and flair into the connected watch. Somehow, one should not see from a certain distance the difference between a Carrera Heuer 01 and a Carrera Wearable 01.

The executive name-drops the Carrera Wearable 01 here – and, additionally, explains how similar to a traditional watch the Carrera Wearable 01 will be. Additionally, Alexandra King, the UK communications manager of Tag Heuer, said that “We [at Tag Heuer] want to create something that will stay on your watch for a lifetime, that’s what Tag Heuer does. And as the technology changes, it will change.”

If this is a hint at hardware customization, we’re not sure… but it seems quite likely that’ll be the case, given this wording. We’ll know more soon, hopefully. The launch of the watch is set for this fall, with a price tag around $1400.
