T-Mobile Commits To HTC Sensation 4G ICS Release Date

Just a few weeks back, it looked like owners of the HTC Sensation 4G on T-Mobile weren’t going to get their official upgrades to Ice Cream Sandwich until well into June, at least according to a leaked roadmap. Since then, though, comments made by the carrier have suggested a much sooner release date for the update, with news that its requisite testing had successfully been completed. While T-Mobile said the update would be here “very soon”, it hadn’t committed to any particular date. Today, we see T-Mobile update its support pages for the Sensation 4G, announcing the arrival of Ice Cream Sandwich beginning May 16.

As of this Wednesday, you’ll be able to pull-down the update for your phone manually. Grabbing it will bring the phone up to Android 4.0.3, with Sensation system software 3.32.531.14710RD and HTC’s Sense 3.6. The only annoying bit about the upgrade process seems to be a requirement that you modify your account to add WiFi Mobile Hotspot support as a result of installing the update.

We’ve also been wondering what this means for the Amaze 4G, which was tipped on that same roadmap to also get its update in mid-June. While it doesn’t have a specific date assigned to it like the Sensation 4G, the Amaze’s support pages now read that the update will be available “in the coming weeks”. Hopefully, we’ll get a more precise idea soon.
