T-Mobile Begins Carrying HTC Wildfire S; $80 On-Contract

After hearing only rumors of HTC’s Wildfire S landing on T-Mobile in the US, we finally saw the smartphone in a render with T-Mobile branding back near the end of last month. Just a day later, the official announcement was upon us, setting the handset up for an August 3 release. Sure as sugar, the Wildfire S is now available at T-Mobile for just $80, after rebate, on-contract.

Make no mistake: the Wildfire S is far from the top of HTC’s lineup, but it’s not exactly aimed at the smartphone elite, either. Though the feature set is a bit limited, this Android is priced for the user unconcerned with multiple cores, 3D, and HD. To that end, you won’t be recording any HD video with the Wildfire S, but at least you can take still shots with its 5MP camera. Its 600MHz processor may not be up to snuff for some of the higher-end apps in the Android Market, but if your goals for the Wildfire S center around playing Angry Birds and some casual web surfing, you should be all set.

The Wildfire S has a 3.2-inch HVGA display, is all set with Android Gingerbread, and includes HTC Sense.
