Swiftkey launched for iOS, but as a Notes application

Swifkey is probably one of the best inventions to ever reach the Android ecosystem. It’s not only one of the smartest and better looking keyboards in the Play Store, but for those of us that live abroad, it makes it extremely easy to handle multi-lingual typing over the same UI, with no need for a language-switch button. We all heard the rumors of the service reaching iOS to some extent, and that’s now a reality.

Say hello to Swiftkey Note, the company’s new app for iOS. Sadly, as opposed to Android where you get a full keyboard replacement, Swiftkey is a just a Notes application. There are some advantages though, as it is actually more of an Evernote client for iOS, syncing seamlessly with the service, as if you were really using the Evernote. Once within Swiftkey Note, you’ll notice that even though the iOS keyboard looks the same, it does perform differently. Aside from getting a row of predictive words as you type, you will notice that text prediction is sometimes more accurate. To make matters better, as with Android, you don’t have to hit the language-switch button to change it; the keyboard will detect your language, even if you still see the other language in the space bar.

Its caveats obviously are that the enhanced keyboard only works within the app, so that can lead to some confusion. Still, let’s hope this is just the first step to something better. The app is free on the App Store, and it works for the iPhone and iPad.
