Sprint Leaks Target LG Viper, HTC Jet

Samsung’s Galaxy Nexus is coming to Sprint LTE sooner or later, and earlier this morning we looked at a claim that the phone might launch on the carrier in mid-April. It turns out that’s not the only upcoming Sprint model to feature in recent rumors, with both the LG Viper and an HTC model joining it.

The LG Viper was announced by Sprint at the same time as the Galaxy Nexus; the two Androids are to be the launch devices for Sprint’s new LTE network. The Viper will offer a more affordable LTE experience than the Galaxy Nexus, featuring lower-spec hardware like a 4-inch WVGA screen, five-megapixel main camera, and dual-core 1.2GHz CPU. Unlike the Gnex, the Viper will arrive running Gingerbread, not Ice Cream Sandwich. According to these most recent rumors, the Viper will become available around the same time as the Galaxy Nexus on April 15.

The last phone featured in these rumors goes by the codename HTC Jet. That’s one we’ve seen before, but without any information tied to it. S4GRU reports that, based on the supposed Jet specs that its source divulged, it believes the phone to be the HTC One X; these include the presence of NFC and the use of a MSM8960 processor. That’s a good theory, but with a rumored release date not until June 10, we can’t ignore the possibility that the Jet may be new HTC hardware with which we’re not yet familiar.
