Sprint Exec Reveals EVO 3D ICS Update Arriving Next Month

The HTC EVO 3D on Sprint is one of those phones where we’ve long known that the handset will be seeing an upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich, but didn’t have a strong grasp on just when that might be. With the news that the Virgin Mobile version of the phone would come with ICS (and the related screw-up where many Sprint users flashed the leaked ROM for that phone onto their Sprint handsets, temporarily giving them Virgin branding without an obvious way to go back), you could probably make a safe bet that ICS would come to the EVO 3D sooner rather than later, but we still lacked official confirmation. Those times are behind us now, as a Sprint exec has now revealed that the EVO 3D will be getting ICS next month.

In an interview with Engadget, Sprint VP David Owens discusses plans for bringing ICS to post-paid users of the EVO 3D – ie, those on Sprint rather than Virgin. According to Owens, that software update should arrive sometime during June. Along with bringing the phone up to Android 4.0, the release will also update HTC’s UI to Sense 3.6.
