Back in November, Spotify shut down Car View, an enlarged version of Spotify with large buttons and a more spacious layout. Since then, Spotify didn’t offer a true alternative, although it did launch its own “Car Thing” accessory that allows users to listen to music while commuting. Spotify never shared the real reason why it discontinued Car View, but it always claimed that it was “actively exploring” alternative ways to offer a safe way to listen and control music. It appears Car Mode is now being reintroduced in the latest version of Spotify with a new design, and focus on voice control.

9to5Google reports that Spotify is now rolling out Car Mode, which looks like a redesigned and slightly re-worked Car View that was discontinued last November. The new Car Mode introduces a three-tabbed view on the bottom, displaying the home screen, voice assistant, and playlists. The Home page is less dense, and it appears much larger than the standard view, offering easy navigation and access.

The new music player also received a facelift, and it still features large buttons to skip, play/pause, shuffle, like buttons. The player also features a microphone button that can trigger an assistant that can show, play songs, or look up artists and playlists. The last library tab offers quick and easy access to recently listened music, so you have to search less to find your favorite track that’s on repeat.

The new Car Mode is currently in “test drive” mode, meaning that things can change and may not be available to everyone for a while. We’re glad to see the feature back on Spotify, and although we don’t yet have it on our devices, we can’t wait to test it out.

Are you excited to see the new version of Car Mode finally return to Spotify? Did you rely heavily on the Car View feature in the past? Let us know in the comments!
