INTRODUCTION

The ability to use the Pocket PC for presentations is part of mobility’s Holy Grail.

Dell and HP have included video capabilities in some of their Pocket PCs with the appropriate external adapter. Spectec has developed the SDV-841, a video-out card that is SDIO/mini SDIO compliant and provides VGA, composite, and S-Video outputs. Does this mean you can finally leave behind your laptop? Let’s see how well it works!

OVERALL IMPRESSION

The Spectec SDV-841 Video-out card can be very helpful for displaying simple presentations onto a television, a projector or a computer monitor using your SDIO capable Pocket PC. However, given the limitation of the conversion process and display resolution, the usefulness of the SDV-841 becomes questionable. The de-facto standard for the creation of presentations is Microsoft PowerPoint, and the Windows Mobile platform has several applications to manage and display PowerPoint presentations. The Spectec SDV-841 must provide native compatibility with these types of applications on the Pocket PC to ascend to the "must have" class of accessories.
