After keeping a relatively low profile in the rumor mill for the largest part of the summer, Sony’s full-on Xperia Z3 sequels kicked off a steady stream of leaks about a month ago. We gradually discovered the Xperia Z4/Z3+ that went official earlier this year was never supposed to be the company’s “true” 2015 flagship, as the Z5 and Z5 Compact towed side-mounted fingerprint scanners and a slew of major hardware upgrades.
Then, the 4K display resolution bombshell was dropped, and as unbelievable as it first sounded, the 3,840 x 2,160 pixel gossip quickly gained traction. And now, it’s practically set in stone, following the mother of all leaks, a comprehensive video showcasing the Xperia Z5 Premium, Z5 and Z5 Compact in the flesh.
It goes without saying the three-minute clip should have probably gone live on the back of the three phones’ formal announcement on Wednesday, September 2, at IFA 2015 in Berlin. But the authenticity of devices demoed in advance of the press conference is clearly hard to dispute, given a Sony official walks us through some of the technical highlights.

These include a one-of-a-kind, ultra-high-res 5.5-inch screen for the Z5 Premium, Full HD 5.2-inch panel as far as the “standard” Xperia Z5 is concerned, and 4.6-inch 720p glass in tow for the Z5 Compact. Plus, Snapdragon 810 processing power across the board, and super-fancy 23MP cameras with “the fastest autofocus on the market”, capable of zooming in on their objective in 0.03 seconds.
Our French is a little rusty, so we’re not entirely certain about this, but two-day battery life may have also been confirmed for all three members of the new high-end Xperia family. Last but not least, a series of subtle design modifications, culminating with the engraving of “Xperia” logos on the sides.
