A couple of months back, when the underwhelming Xperia Z3+/Z4 was still fresh in our memory, and we couldn’t even dare to dream of 4K smartphones, a gripping publicity slogan popped up on posters linking the next 007 movie and a then unannounced, questionable Z5 device.

As it turns out, there was nothing fishy about the Z5, and the ultra-high-res Android handheld is indeed marketed as “Made for Bond.” The first in a planned series of action-packed adverts stressing that point has debuted, and in just 60 seconds, it manages to get us (more) excited for “Spectre”, and highlight a special asset of both the Xperia Z5 phone and RX100 IV digital camera.

While it’s definitely a little disappointing to not see the main man in action, Mr. Bond himself, aka Daniel Craig, Miss Moneypenny, played by the lovely Naomie Harris, was one of the most pleasant surprises in 2012’s “Skyfall”, and we hope she’ll get a bit of extra time in the spotlight this year, despite two new Bond girls (Lea Seydoux and Monica Bellucci) vying for attention.

Back to the commercial, it shows 007’s sidekick doing him a solid by picking up his phone and performing intricate trickery to keep a bunch of bad guys at bay, using among others the RX100 IV’s slow-motion video recording capabilities, and the Z5’s first-rate low-light photography skill.

Keep an eye out for “Spectre” in European theaters starting October 26, and stateside on November 6. Likewise, the Xperia Z5 is expected on the old continent earlier (and wider) than the US.
