The Sony Xperia Z5 is available for purchase at several European retailers right now. And while Sony Europe may have stopped selling its products direct to buyers online, consumers in the continent can still score smartphones, tablets and SmartWear right from the Sony Xperia Store, too.
On that note, if you happen to be in that subset of the customer base, we have good news: you can now get the Sony Xperia Z5 for £549 (838 USD as of this post) or €699 (796 USD).
Third-party retailers like Amazon.co.uk and Clove Technologies are bundling in Sony brand Bluetooth-connected headset or speaker with your Xperia Z5 purchase at the same price, though.
The Xperia Z5 Compact is also on offer at the Xperia Store, Clove and Amazon as well. The latter two are doing the same bundles for this phone, though Amazon is charging an extra £20.99 right now.
The Xperia Z5 Premium, meanwhile, is still in the pre-order stage.
But while the extra availability option is nice, what the Sony Xperia line really needs is a marketing push. Enter product placement (or is it product replacement?) for Columbia Pictures’s latest film in the 007 franchise, “Spectre.” Would James Bond prefer the Sony Xperia Z5 as his smartphone? Or would he actually think that the Aston Martin Racer 808 was made for him?
There’s actually a divergence concerning the “Made for Bond” promo: the associated webpage for the UK prominently shows off the Xperia Z5 as part of the “Made for Bond kit.” The US webpage features the soon-to-be-just-released Xperia Z3+ at the bottom of the page. Maybe Sony’s waiting for the phone’s release before spotlighting the phone in America. Maybe not.
Either way, it seems Sony prefers shaking and stirring things up.
Correction: An earlier version of this story mentioned “Spectre” as being distributed by Sony Pictures. Pocketnow regrets the error.
