Sony claims the Xperia Z1 has “the world’s leading camera in a smartphone”. We were not that impressed with the imaging capabilities of the phone with the occasion of our review but we expressed our hope that the manufacturer can further improve it. Sony posted about a refresh for the Z1 recently and, alongside “performance and stability tweaks”, there’s also a new “camera algorithm for even better all round performance”.

Those who received the Sony Xperia Z1 software update are reporting an overall improvement in the imaging department. The pictures below are “before and after” stills snapped with the Z1, running pre-update build 14.1.G.1.534, and then the new, updated 14.1.G.2.257. As you can see, there’s more sharpness and an overall improvement but sadly we had to part ways with our review unit so we can’t test/confirm the results. Did any of our readers who own a Z1 experience same, improved results? Let us know in the comments!
