Yesterday we heard unconfirmed reports that the Sony Xperia Z Ultra Lollipop update for the Google Play Edition version of the phone has been rolled out, but today, we’re seeing official confirmation from the manufacturer itself concerning the latest and greatest from Google. A post on the official Sony Mobile blog confirms that Lollipop rolls out starting this week for the GPe variant, though some regions might get it earlier than others.

Aside from the latest version of Android, with all the fixes, features, and beautification (Material Design), the firmware update also brings the new type of notifications on the lock screen, as well as multiuser accounts and better battery life with “Project Volta”. For the ROM chefs, Sony has posted the source code and binary files in order to allow building AOSP Lollipop with an unlocked boot loader.
