All things considered, Sony has had a pretty solid year in 2013; maybe it didn’t quite see the sales it might like, but the hardware it managed to put out was certainly very competitive. What about what’s next for the company, though? We’ve been trying to work out just how this phone codenamed Amami – the “Z1 Mini” – might launch internationally, but beyond some very general looks at components that may lend themselves to future handsets, we really haven’t had a strong sense of where Sony’s headed from here. Today we get a preliminary glimpse into Sony’s plans, with the discovery of a handful of previously-unknown model numbers in a regulatory database.

Some of these are brand-new, while others have turned-up in lists before, but many of them are still mysteries. All told, we see mentions of Sony models D2004, D2005, D2105, D2303, D5322, D5303, D5503, D6503, and SGP521.

That D5503 is the Amami we’ve been so interested in, but we’re not sure what to expect from the seemingly higher-end D6503; or maybe that number’s just misleading, as benchmark results suggest that the D5503 might actually be more powerful. While most of these appear to be smartphones, SGP521 is almost certainly another tablet – though just how big, we can’t yet say.

Sony had the Xperia Z ready to show off at last year’s CES; will it have a new flagship ready to go at 2014’s event? It could easily be one of these models revealed here.
