Rumors about a Sony smartphone codenamed Lavender date back several weeks at this point, with a number of specs leaking early last month. Those inlcuded components like a 1080p display and MediaTek SoC, making this sound like a solidly capable handset, though one that may fall more into the mid-range of the spectrum. Now the source behind that last leak is back with a photo, detailing a handset with some remarkably thin side bezels.
While not yet decked-out with Sony branding, that’s supposedly our guy Lavender up top, with a look that might be more at home from one of those Chinese OEMs that are always pushing bezels to new super-thin limits. At least, while that’s the sense we get from the screen, there are some other more Sony-like design elements here, such as the edge-mounted speakers like on the Z4, or a big selfie-cam (with front-facing flash) that wouldn’t look out of place on a phone like the Xperia C4.
This new pic doesn’t arrive alongside any more detailed specs, but the source reiterates that we’re looking at a mid-range device. As for how Lavender might launch, we’re similarly at a loss. It’s expected to get Sony model number E5503, but we haven’t heard any strong suggestions for whatever Xperia branding the phone would presumably come to market with.
