Same same but different: Mystery high-end Sony F8331 phone shows up in live pics

They say old habits die hard, and as much as Sony would like to transition to a whole new flagship Xperia look to help “maximize” European sales, it might take a while until the Z line will be completely forgotten by both its designers and customers.

Case in point, the Xperia X and X Performance have replaced the glass backs of the Z5 and Z5 Premium with metal ones, also adding smooth curves into the equation, yet still borrowing plenty of things from their defunct predecessors.

Already, a slightly beefed-up F8331 variant is reportedly in the works, and alongside minor improvements under the hood, this could introduce another redesign as well. Once again though, the DNA legacy of past Z-series heroes is pretty obvious and undeniable.

The same goes for the X and X Performance, model numbers F5122 and F8132, with fresh aesthetic elements including a tweaked rear camera sporting dual-LED flash, more pronounced curves on the sides, perfectly flat top and bottom, plus something resembling an antenna band on the back, near the phone’s lowest point.

Assuming these leaked images and the inside info accompanying them are legit, the Sony Xperia X… Ultra (?) will be much larger than 5.1 inches, with huge speaker-housing screen bezels, both a USB Type-C port and headphone jack, and 4K video capture for rear and front snappers.
