Sony schedules mobile-focused event; will we see anything new?

The next few weeks are going to be pretty busy when it comes to smartphone events. This year’s WWDC is only a matter of days away, and on June 20 we’ve got that Samsung event in London – although it sure feels like Samsung’s been racing to announce things early and ruin any surprises. Now we’ve got one more to add to the calendar, with Sony distributing save-the-dates for a June 25 event of its own.

The invitation for the German event asks “So you want more?”, which we could read a couple different ways. The most straightforward interpretation may be that this is just anything new – new phone, a new tablet, or maybe just new services – but could it also be a subtle hint at what we could expect from that new hardware itself? Maybe wanting more could be wanting a larger device, and we could be getting news of that jumbo-sized 6.4-inch Togari phablet.

That’s not the only possibility – what about those rumors of a Google Edition Xperia Z? And there’s also the very real chance that there won’t be anything “new” new here, and that this event is going to deliver news that’s only going to be pertinent to the German market in specific – a carrier deal, or something of that nature.
