At the beginning of December, following up on the acquisition of Ericsson’s stake from the joint venture by Sony, we’ve been told that Sony will be phasing out the Sony Ericsson brand by mid-2012.

We’re now told that Sony Ericsson will be rebranded as Sony Mobile Communications and all the phones which will be announced and released from this point on will be only wearing the “Sony” branding. The old Sony Ericsson logo is also dumped and, to testify to all the above, the Sony Xperia Ion on AT&T as well as the Sony Xperia S are only labeled as Sony.
