This summer, Sony began an interesting experiment with its Android software, inviting select users to try a very stock-ish, minimalistic Android build that was in contrast to the company’s usual skinning. This “Concept for Android,” as Sony called it, was available for Z3 users in certain markets who signed up, and earlier this month we heard that the next wave of the project was nearly upon us, ready to bring Z3 and Z3 Compact owners an early taste of Marshmallow. But just how long would we have to wait? It turns out, not that long at all, as Sony begins distribution of Marshmallow-based Concept for Android builds.

Mind you, this is still an early release, and testers should be ready for all the occasional hiccups that sort of thing means. Not everyone will see it arrive straight away, either, and Sony’s clear that it may be a few weeks before everyone registered gets their hands on it.

The good news there, at least, is that if you haven’t registered to participate in Concept for Android just yet, that you may still have a chance; along with announcing this Marshmallow release, Sony also mentions that it’s opened up some extra registration spots – though expect to see those fill up fast, assuming there are even any left by now.

It could still be a little while before Sony’s main-line Android releases get their Marshmallow updates – especially for older devices like the Z3 – so if you’ve got the chance to sign up, this could be your best bet at getting Marshmallow before your fellow Sony users.
