Sony announces Xperia Z Ultra phablet

Just as we heard this morning, the Xperia Z Ultra (Xperia ZU) has become official. Sony made the announcement at Mobile Asia Expo and the Xperia Z Ultra brings its 6.4-inch screen to the masses.

Lots of “world firsts” here: the world’s slimmest full HD smartphone, the world’s largest full HD smartphone display, the world’s sharpest large-screen smartphone display, and the world’s fastest smartphone processor. For the spec addicts among you, the Xperia Z Ultra is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor clocked at 2.2 GHz and has a 6.4-inch Full HD display. It is a “TRILUMINOS Display for mobile reproduces a greater range of rich, natural colours to deliver true, natural shades just the way you want to see them”. The camera is an eight-megapixel shooter with “Exmor RS for mobile” and the entire phablet is powered by Android 4.2.2. From the 16GB internal storage (expandable via microSD card), 11GB are user accessible.

As far as the screen operation is concerned, the rumors were true. One can operate the Xperia Z Ultra with any pencil and selected stylus or pen (capacitive stylus or metal pen with tip diameter over 1mm).

The phone, as the Xperia Z, is also waterproof, and comes in three flavors: black, white and purple. It will launch in Q3, 2013. Check out the videos below and make sure to follow the source link for more details.
