While several Android device manufacturers have named or at least strongly suggested names of phones and tablets due for official 7.0 UI makeovers… eventually, there’s no update deadline as far as a single non-Nexus product is concerned. And we’re not expecting any for a few more weeks. Possibly, even a month or two.
Unless Sony miraculously pulls off “official Xperia Android N updates around October” for the X Performance and XZ, as this sketchy leaked roadmap appears to imply. The “Android N update strategy” presentation slide was purportedly revealed by one of the company’s European branches, specifically the Slovakian arm, though we still strongly doubt the accuracy of the targeted dates.
Not only is Sony allegedly gunning for Xperia XZ and X Performance Nougat rollouts next month, but also November software modernizations for the standard X and diminutive Xperia X Compact. Then, “around December”, a third “update cycle” would begin, additionally bringing the entire Z5 series, Z3+ phone and Z4 Tablet to the latest and greatest Android iteration.
Finally, “early 2017” could see the Xperia XA and XA Ultra leave the “obsolete” Marshmallow build behind as well. Android 6.0, by the way, barely reached the Z2, Z3 and Z3 Compact back in April, with the C4 and C5 Ultra following suit this very month. Bottom line, let’s not get our hopes up.
