New Year’s Resolution for Sony? “48K” 360-degree video

By Jules Wang January 7, 2016, 7:20 pm

Hurr durr, it’s that joke that every tech YouTuber’s making on Twitter, right? But even though Sony isn’t really shredding the pipes at CES this year, at least on the mobile end, it’s at least trying to impress all of us with some impressive video quality — and it’s all coming out of 12 Xperia Z5 Compacts.

Those handsets were arranged in a special 3D-printed rig for 360° video and was sent to the Rise Ski & Snowboard Festival in Les Deux Alpes, France to shoot some magic. And since the Xperia Z5 Compact can shoot 4K, Sony decided to do some marketing at call it “48K.”

YouTube calls it 2160s resolution, where the “s” presumably stands for spherical scan.

POCKETNOW VIDEO OF THE DAY

In any case, take advantage of your overpriced VR headset or Google Cardboard setup or whatever you happen to have and look all around the Alps in 4K at your pleasure.
