Samsung is milking the Galaxy S 4 for everything that phone is worth – and why not? It’s easily one of the most popular phones of the year, and Samsung has been taking full advantage of the handset’s name recognition to put out a whole bunch of hardware variants. At first, that meant devices like the GS4 Zoom, Mini, and Active, but later we saw Samsung’s attention turn to the chipset powering the GS4 itself, upgrading from the Snapdragon 600 at the heart of many LTE editions of the Galaxy S 4 to a Snapdragon 800 for the South Korean LTE-A GS4. Eventually, that 800-based model surfaced in additional countries, and we even heard a new name for it: the Galaxy S 4 Advance. Today we see the 800-fication of the GS4 continue, with word that there’s now going to be an 800 version of the Galaxy S 4 Active.

Actually, this is more than just an SoC upgrade, as the new GS4 Active – which, like the first Snapdragon 800-based GS4 will debut in South Korea to take advantage of the LTE-A coverage there – gets a higher-res 13-megapixel camera; remember, the first Active only had an 8-megapixel shooter, unlike the 13-megapixel component on all the regular GS4s.

There’s also the addition of a new white color option, but other than that, the chip, and the camera, this is the same old Galaxy S 4 Active we know and love. Now we just need to see if this model has any international ambitions of its own.
