Skype video messaging becomes free for all

Back in February, we saw Skype deliver a new feature, the sort of thing that’s the logical next step in the evolution of video chat and instant messaging: video messaging. Users could send each other clips of themselves – not Vine-short, mind you, but less than three minutes. While interesting, the feature was a bit limited at first, and if you want the unrestrained ability to send as many video messages as you cared to, you needed a premium Skype account. Well, today that all becomes a thing of the past, and video messaging hits prime time as a free Skype feature.

As of now, video messaging is implemented and free to use on desktop versions of Skype, iOS editions for both the iPhone and iPad, Android, and BlackBerry ports.

Ironically, Microsoft-owned Skype still fails to fully deliver for Windows Phone, and while those users can view video messages, they still can’t send any themselves. That bummer aside, today’s announcement is still largely good news, so for the rest of you, get started sending those video messages!
