What does “soon” mean in the smartphone world? When you hear that a hot new phone is hitting the carrier of your choice “soon,” are you anticipating it to land maybe in the next couple weeks? Possibly next month? Back in August, we saw the debut of the shockingly compelling Sharp Aquos Crystal, an Android handset with a bezel around its screen so narrow it’s essentially not even there. And word that this phone would arrive for the crazy low price of $240 with no contractual obligation sounded almost too good to be true. We were told it was coming soon to Sprint… and then August turned into September, and September into October. When would the Aquos Crystal finally go up for sale? We may have had to wait nearly two months, but the start of Sharp Aquos Crystal sales are now getting underway.
Boost Mobile is among the first places selling the Aquos Crystal, with sales starting today both in the carrier’s retail locations and Best Buy stores. Better still, it’s even more affordable than we were hoping for, going for a scant $150.
Sprint’s prepaid service also picks up the phone today, for the same $150. You’ll have to wait just a little longer for the phone on a regular postpaid contract, with those sales beginning next Friday, October 17. There, you’ll still pay the full $240 retail price, though at least spread out over the length of your contract, that only comes to $10 a month.
