Is it finally about time you started taking Tizen seriously? While at first, Samsung’s efforts with the platform may have been interpreted as a petulant response to resenting Google’s control over Android, Tizen’s slowly been coming into its own, and that’s all the more true now with the strong response the new Tizen-powered Gear S2 smartwatch is getting. But while Tizen’s got a foothold in Samsung’s wearable efforts, Tizen-powered phones have been a whole lot harder to come by, and after the failed Samsung Z launch last year, we finally saw Samsung introduce the Z1 back in January. So far, though, sales have been constrained to markets like India, without a big global presence. That may soon change, as Tizen-running phones come to Europe in the form of the new Samsung Z3.

We’ve had the Z3 on our radar for a few weeks now, and from the hardware data that’s been available, the handset is shaping up to be a decently powerful mid-ranger – a far cry from the Z1 (above) with its four-inch WVGA screen and similarly low-end components.

Where exactly could we hope to see the Z3 pop up? While nothing’s yet confirmed, the rumored list of nations that could be getting the phone include France, Germany, the UK, Poland, and Russia – so while it might not be everywhere, it sounds like Samsung could be targeting quite a few major markets. More than speaking to Samsung’s Tizen ambitions themselves, that could also spell great news for developers, giving them access to lots of new users (with lots of money to spend on apps and services).
